Poem About One of Our Big Brothers

The following is a poem that was written by the mother of a child in our program about his Big Brother mentor. The match graduated in 2006 (when a Little turns 18, the match officially closes), but the words are still relevant and powerful.

Oh how could it be?
It seems so strange to me,
He abandoned his own
Is his heart made of stone?

Child of his blood
Child of his flesh
No care from his soul
None the less.

Then came a man
Who held out his hand
With no ties that bind
A man loving and kind.

He chooses this good
He must feel that he should
But the love that he shows
Does even more than he knows.

Oh how could it be?
It seems so wonderful to me.
That a man so unknown
What love he has shown.

Oh how could it be?
It is beautiful to see.
Petals of charity unfold.
His heart made of gold!
